So… Gray Zone Warfare dropped patch 0.4 "Spearhead". And yeah, apparently it’s a big one.
But funny enough, that’s not even why I came back. A friend of mine (shoutout to Atlan) saw the game on Steam... discount + PvE shooter was enough for him to go "hey, wanna try this?"
And I was like… yeah, I already bought that thing back at release. We can take a look. Mostly thinking it would still be kinda rough.
Turns out… they didn’t just sit around. Patch 0.4 is pretty packed.
100+ new tasks, new locations, weapons, gear and a full reworked task system.
Better AI, reworked loot, improved performance, animations, sound and UI.
They also added things like a new tutorial area, field manual, better traders and even rebalanced ballistics.
Basically… a bit of everything.
Full details are in their devlogs, but this is more about how it actually feels to play now.
Honestly? Way better than before.
The biggest thing for me is performance. Back then it was… yeah… not great.
Now it actually runs in a way where you can enjoy the game instead of fighting your FPS, which already changes everything.
A lot of smaller things still feel kind of the same. Loot on NPCs for example didn’t suddenly become amazing. But that’s early access… stuff like that gets tweaked over time anyway.
Some people said PvE is too easy. I don’t fully agree.
Yeah, the starting area is pretty chill. But once you move on… enemies definitely start hitting harder.
We’re currently around Pha Lang Airport and yeah… we did die a couple of times.
Although to be fair… the real endboss was the barbed wire on a fence.
You know exactly what I mean, Atlan.
Right now, it actually feels like a proper early access game.
Not broken, not frustrating all the time, but still clearly not finished.
And that’s fine.
If you already own it, I’d definitely say: give it another try. It’s a very different experience compared to release.
If you’re thinking about buying it… watch a few Twitch streams or YouTube videos first and decide for yourself.
This is one of those games where gameplay matters more than trailers. Watch real sessions.
But yeah… I’m actually looking forward to playing again tonight.
Running around Lamang Island with a bit of chaos, a bit of panic and maybe slightly better decisions than yesterday.
Or not.
